Our story

Rooted in Aloha

Hula Mary Jane is a community built on love, movement, and the living traditions of Hawaiian culture — right here in Mechanicsville, Virginia.

Meet Mary Jane

Sharing the Aloha Spirit with Hula

Mary Jane Smith has been dancing hula since 2010, when she fell in love with the Hawaiian dance, music, and culture. After moving to Mechanicsville and discovering there were no local hula classes or groups, MJ started her own classes in 2018 and founded Mechanicsville Hula. MJ is also a founding member of the Happy Hula Gals!

Whether you're stepping onto the dance floor for the very first time or returning to a practice you've always loved, Mary Jane's door is open. Every student is welcomed as ohana — family.

What we believe

The spirit behind every movement

Aloha

Every class begins and ends with love — for the dance, for the culture, and for one another.

Ohana

We are a community. Students support each other, celebrate together, and grow as a family.

Tradition

Hula is a living art form. We honor its roots while welcoming everyone into its story.

Joy

Movement should feel good. We dance with smiles, laughter, and a whole lot of aloha spirit.
